28/05/06 Pewter at Putney Upper Thames under 14 womens double won their second regatta in a row over the weekend.
Putney Town Regatta is raced over 1200m on a stretch of Tideway between Hammersmith and Putney bridges. In good water conditions and a light wind, the double of Emma-Jane Girling (bow) and Katherine Poulter twice overcame local crews who train on this stretch to win by 4 lengths in the semi-final, and by 1 length in the final. An unfavourable draw in the final putting them on the longer route around the outside of the bend meant that well-timed steering, stamina and good technique were needed to overhaul the opposition crew from Putney High School. This followed on from a win at Evesham just two weeks earlier. Their next event is National Schools Regatta at Nottingham. |
