| The UTRC Elite Men's squad has grown significantly
over the last two years. The squad is still open, particularly
to athletes with aspirations to win at the highest domestic
level. The goals for the 2011/12 men's
squad are threefold: to work with individuals to increase
their boat moving skills, to improve on last year's HORR results
(24th and 35th place) and to win at the highest possible level
during the summer regatta season. The early focus will be
on developing individuals, and then, in the New Year, on developing
crews.
There will be regular testing throughout the season,
and a training camp after the HORR. Final selection for HRR
will be in June.
Training sessions generally run from 6pm on Mondays
to Thursdays and from 7.30am until 11.30am at weekends. Effective
time management is an important part of the programme, and
allows plenty of opportunity for a life away from rowing.
The facilities at UTRC are excellent, including
a new gymnasium, a dedicated ergo room and top of the range
training equipment and boats.
The Men's coach for 2011/12 is Justin Sutherland.
Justin has coached at OUBC and Henley RC, and won HRR in 1998
representing Bowbridge BC. |
