In recent years UTRC has developed into a leading club at junior level. The squad has now expanded to the point of offering rowing throughout the junior age categories in both boys and girls.
The juniors have access to a substantial part of the main boat fleet at UTRC, and are certainly not treated as "second class citizens". The club is very committed to providing a safe, secure and above all fun environment for its junior members, and recognises the importance of running a strong junior section.
The section benefits from a great deal of support from parents, many of whom take a very active role in helping create what is fast becoming one of the leading junior squads in the country.
The coaching team is run and co-ordinated by Will Satch, a current GB international athlete, who himself learned to row at UTRC before going on to win the Thames Cup for Leander.
Will is responsible for the High Performance group within the Junior section, and accordingly sets a full training programme for the squad. He also takes a leading role in the selection and training for all other parts of the junior squad, and has been a great role model for the youngsters at UTRC. |
